Going on a babymoon
One of the new pregnancy fads is to go on a "babymoon" before the baby comes so you can enjoy some quiet time together before your life completely changes. Given how much Adam and I love to travel, it will come as no surprise that we are going on at least one such trip. For Labor Day weekend we are headed to Montreal to enjoy a long weekend of French speaking and good food. Hopefully Peanut catches the travel bug early so he comes to enjoy travel as much as we do. I will post pictures when we return.
Lesson Learned (on an airplane)
Lesson: Do not read pregnancy books in public for other people are nosy and will begin to give you unsolicited advice.
I was recently on a flight to Houston that is about 3.5 hours. With about an hour left in the flight, I took out a book that my friend Amanda gave me called "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy." I thought I was being very discreet, not showing the cover, and trying to hoover over the book so no words could be seen. Well, the woman in the middle seat next to me decided this was an invitation for her to ask "Honey, are you pregnant?" Hindsight being what it is, I should have just said "no" so she would go back to minding her own business. When I affirmed that I was, she proceeded to touch my stomach, tell me how to prepare for breastfeeding, and that spanking kids is the best way to keep kids in line. When she asked how I planned to give birth I responded with "as many drugs as they will give me" to try and turn her off. No such luck - she just kept talking. And when the other woman in our row woke up, Ms. Nosy proceeded to tell her I was pregnant. This lesson was learned the hard way, especially on a plane where there was no where to go!

BellaBand
For those of you who haven't heard of these nifty little "BellaBands", they're essentially just a circular piece of lycra to help prego's keep their pants up without having to button them. I'm just about at the point of not being able to button my normal pants so gave this bad boy a trial run on Friday. It worked great! A real "belly" shot coming soon!

Daycare
On the endless "to-do" baby list, we have checked off a major one today. We have a spot at the daycare across the street from Adam's office for the May/June time frame. Adam and I have both toured the facility, (click here - the Goddard School), and were very impressed. They even teach the babies sign language so they can communicate their needs! The proximity to Adam's office will be so nice. He can just pop in whenever he wants. Thanks to Peanut for starting to deplete our funds already!

Doctor's Appt #3
Here's how today's scheduled monthly appointment went:
-Sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes
-Pee in a cup
-Get weighed (I've gained about 5 lbs according to them, although I think it's a couple more than that, and I'm pretty sure it is all in my boobs and butt)
-Sit in the dr's office for 45 minutes
-Dr finally comes in, answers my questions for 2 minutes (and confirms I can dye my hair - whoo hoo!)
-Puts some gel on my belly so I can hear the heartbeat. Heartbeat is 150 in a typical range of 120-160. According to the old wives tales, this means it's a girl. I'm still sticking with my boy theory, but we'll just have to wait until Feb to find out.
-Scheduled next monthly appt and first external ultrasound

Number 14 on the 14th
It is worth noting that Peanut will be the 14th great-grandchild of both Grandma Amundson (Nicole's materal grandmother) and Grandma Barker (Adam's maternal grandmother). There is no better reason for this baby to try and be on time and arrive on the 14th of February (other than to also keep me sane).

Is Peanut a boy or a girl?
At this point, we are thinking that we will NOT find out Peanut's gender before he is born. I call Peanut a "he" because I think it's going to be a boy and Adam thinks it's going to be a girl. Here are some old wives tale hints that apply to me so you can decide for yourself.....
-When I add my age at the time of conception and the number of the month in which we conceived, the sum is an even number (boy)
-My age when I conceived (29) and the year that I conceived (2009) are both even or odd numbers (girl)
-I skipped morning sickness in early pregnancy (boy)
-I crave salty or sour foods (boy)
-I crave sweets (girl)
-A ring swings back and forth when dangled from a string over my belly (boy)
-My face reminices the breakouts of my teen years (girl)
-Heart rate of 150 (girl)

Adios First Trimester
I officially moved into the second trimester this week and as most of you know, that's when pregos breathe a sigh of relief and then open their mouth again and start to tell everyone the good news.
Just a bit on my first trimester: In a nutshell, it was a breeze. No morning sickness. Both ultrasounds looked good. I ate enough for me, Peanut, and any imaginary friends he (I'll get to the masculine reference in a later post) might have. I gained the standard 5 pounds (mostly due to Fruity Pebbles, Ritz Crackers and pizza). I continued to travel to my client in Houston without any issue. I continued to work out. Adam and I continued to take trips on the weekends. Life hasn't changed so much yet.
And now I'm just trying to embrace the calm before the third trimester storm.

On the Bambino Trail.....
It's official.......Adam and I are on the Bambino Trail! We found out in mid-June that we would be expecting our first baby on February 14, 2010. Given that we are not living close to many of our families and friends, I thought this would be a good way to keep people posted on our journey through pregnancy to becoming parents of "Peanut" Hardt. Hope you enjoy!
