Visitors: Nick came this past weekend to visit and go to the Packer game with mommy and daddy. The Packers beat the Eagles and my mommy & daddy even made it home alive. Mommy said I can't be a football player and that I can't go to an Eagles game anytime soon. When we were in WI over Christmas, Michelle, Tim and Madison came down to Milwaukee to visit us as well.
My Likes: I love walking, walking with my remote control, showing everyone my butt crack, shaking my head no, feeding myself foods like Cheerios and goldfish, kicking the ball, dancing to music and reading books.
Other milestones: I took my first steps on December 18th! Over Christmas, I perfected my form and was walking all over the place and barely crawling any more. I'm also pretty good at drinking from a real cup (move over sippy cup!) assuming my mommy holds it for me. I've been saying "da da" for quite some time now and have muttered a couple of "ma mas" as well.
Trips: We went back to Wisconsin on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas in Milwaukee. On my mommy's birthday, we went to Grandpa Hanson's house in Tomah for a couple of days. Then, it was back to Milwaukee on New Years so mommy and daddy could go out. I spent my first night without both of them at Grandma Honey and G-Pop's house.
Looking forward to in the next month: Going to Aruba on my first birthday! I've got my passport and am ready to go play in the sand.
Length: 29.5 inches
Visitors: Grandma and Grandpa Porter came to visit for 2 weeks over Thanksgiving. We had lots of fun hanging out while mommy worked. We went for a walk, went to the mall, went to DC for Thanksgiving, and then I hung out with Daddy and Grandpa while Mommy and Grandma went to NYC for Grandma's 60th birthday.
Sleeping patterns: Well, this past month has been a mixed bag of sleeping experiences. For a few weeks, I would wake up in the middle of the night and cry for mommy and daddy, who would then bring me into the big kids bed with them, which made me really happy and I would immediately fall back asleep. However, mommy and daddy weren't getting any sleep so it all came to a head on Thanksgiving when mommy said "enough is enough." She read a book all the way home from DC and made a new rule that I had to be in bed by 8 pm each night. We also spend about 15 minutes playing in my room beforehand. Works like a charm - I'm back to being a great sleeper and sleep about 11 hours each night.
My Likes: I love climbing up the stairs, but know that I'm not suppose to because I look around to see if anyone is watching me. I also like riding my truck that Aunt Milly and Uncle Jason gave me for Christmas. I can even push it forward with my feet! I also like to pretend I'm reading and to play ball with daddy.
My Dislikes: I still don't like having my diaper changed.
Other milestones: I've now got 6 teeth - 3 on top and 3 on the bottom. This means I've been eating more "people" food lately. Boy, did I love that guacamole that mommy made! I also started standing on my own, but have yet to take my first true "steps".
Trips: We took a trip to Aunt Milly and Uncle Jason's new house outside DC for Thanksgiving. I had so much fun crawling all over their big house and playing with the girls (or completely ignoring them).
Looking forward to in the next month: Going to Milwaukee and Tomah for Christmas. I'm going to meet Santa, too!
Length: 29.25 inches (90th percentile)
Visitors: Grandma Honey and Jenna came to visit in the past month. Jenna came while daddy was in Italy. We hung out, played and went shopping in Philly.
Sleeping patterns: I generally have been sleeping really well at night. However, the past 3 nights I've been waking the entire house up around 12:30 for some attention. My pediatrician says that I have developed object permanence, so when I wake up, I cry for my mommy and daddy because I know they are somewhere near by.
My Likes: I love to walk behind my little truck all by myself. Sometimes I fall, but I'm actually pretty good at it and always look at mommy and daddy with a big smile on my face because I'm so proud of myself. My Dislikes: I still HATE having my diaper changed. I really don't like my big boy car seat either.
Other milestones: I've been shaking my head a lot and clapping my hands. I went to my first baby swim class and have also started music class. I'm really good in all of my classes and would best be characterized as an "observer." Tonight I climbed up the stairs to reach a plastic bag.
Trips: We leave on Friday for a weekend in Cleveland to visit Ian and Kate Stuart and their son Adam who is 2 years old. He's going to show me the ropes on what it takes to be a toddler! I have it on good word that I may also be in Aruba for my first birthday. Woo hoo!
Looking forward to in the next month: Grandma and Grandpa Porter coming to visit for two weeks over Thanksgiving and celebrating Grandma's 60th birthday with her. We are also going to Aunt Milly and Uncle Jason's new house for Thanksgiving.
Length: 28.5 inches. I don't think I'm shrinking. I just think the nurse did a terrible job of measuring me at 6 months.
Visitors: Auntie Andra came last weekend for a little pumpkin action.
Sleeping patterns: Bed time has been moved up to around 8:30 pm on most nights and I will sleep until around 7 am. I sleep through almost every night, with some exceptions like last week when we had to have play time at 1:30 am.
My Likes: I like to do a lot of gross things right now - Drinking the water in the tub when I'm taking a bath, putting mommy and daddy's shoes in my mouth and chewing on the corner of the diaper box (proof in the picture above). Mommy also took me to Gymboree for the first time today and I had lots of fun playing on all the toys and having bubbles blown at me. Although I don't use the paci very much anymore, I do love to suck my thumb with something in my other hand (mommy's shirt, a blanket, a piece of paper). My favorite toy is probably the real remote control (minus batteries) that mommy & daddy gave me when they got tired of me changing the channels. I have also been tipping my head to the side recently, like I've got to get a different angle to figure something out.
My Dislikes: When mommy takes the magazine paper out of my hand that I'm trying to eat. When dinner time is over, I get fussy for a bit.
Other milestones: I've been eating some "adult" food like cheese and Ritz crackers. I also ate some avocado at a sushi restaurant, which I hated the first time mommy tried to feed it to me. I like sharing bananas with mommy too - she eats a bite, and then I get a bite. I'm pretty good at listening too - I know what "no" means, and I usually crawl to mommy or daddy when they ask me to. I haven't started walking yet, but I did "creep" from one thing to the other and if I'm holding mommy's hands I take these big, goofy steps like I'm in a marching band.
Trips: No big trips on planes this month. My next plane ride will be to Milwaukee for Christmas.
Looking forward to in the next month: Grandma Honey coming next weekend, Jenna the weekend after that and then Halloween. I have two costumes all ready to go! My swim classes start at the Y at the end of the month. Will mommy dunk me under?
Length: Stay tuned!
Visitors: Kate came for a visit while since she was out our way for business, the Pasch's came over for the first time since moving to PA and Jamie and Aaron came for Labor Day.
Sleeping patterns: He is actually back to sleeping through the night. He still goes down between 9 and 10 pm and sometimes I even have to wake him up to feed him before I go to work.
My Likes: Pulling myself up on anything that is at the right height - couches, chairs, boxes, the printer, etc. I love to stand there and look around. I've also started dropping things on the floor while I'm standing, and practicing picking it up without falling flat on my butt.
My Dislikes: When mommy says "no" to me in a really stern voice, I usually crumble to the floor and cry. I also hate having my diaper changed. I immediately roll over on to my belly and make it very hard for mommy and daddy to do their job.
Other milestones: My first top tooth which Grandma Honey discovered while we were in Chicago this past weekend. I also had my first bottle of formula yesterday. Mommy thinks that 7 months of me exlusively drinking breast milk is enough.
Trips: We just got back today from a weekend in Chicago. Adam had a conference there today and tomorrow so we went in for the weekend and got to see some great friends.
Looking forward to in the next month: We don't have any trips or visitors in the next month - a first! We'll be resting up for a busy October - December.
Visitors: Auntie Andra came for a weekend while Daddy was in NYC. Grandma Porter left yesterday after being here for 5 nights while Daddy was in California. Daddy is going to Italy in October for work.....who wants to come visit?
Sleeping patterns: Still going to sleep between 9 and 9:30, but is now consistently waking up at 3 am, sitting up in his crib and crying until mommy caves and feeds him. Last night I decided there wasn't going to be a 3 am feeding. So, I let him cry it out until he feel asleep about half an hour later. After another 30 minutes he was awake and crying again, so to perserve my own sanity, he got to eat.
My Likes: Practicing my crawling skillzzzzz. Playing on the floor by myself with my toys, the remote control and any magazines I can get my hands on. I like the bathtub because I pretend it's my own mini hottub.
My Dislikes: When mommy takes things away from me, especially any sort of paper product.
Trips: We went down to Fairfax, VA to meet Aunt Sharon, Uncle Bob, Kimmie, Neil, Melissa, Jordan and Peter. The next night we went to Woodbridge to meet Aunt Milly and Jocelyn, Bella and Ruby.
Looking forward to in the next month: G-mommy Kate coming to visit next week when she is here on business. Uncle Aaron and Aunt Jamie coming to visit for Labor Day. Going to Chicago the weekend of Sept 11 to visit all of Chicago peeps!
As a side note, I can't believe that my "little" newborn is already 6 months old....half a year! It seems like yesterday that we emerged from the blizzard to bring him home. And here we sit in 95 degree heat - so much change in so little time. I can imagine that time is only going to go by even more quickly from here on out.
